The evenings are still too dark and the weather too wet for much outdoor activity, so we are keeping busy indoors.

As part of their preparation for their Easter “Ice and Fire” themed Expedition to Iceland jointly with Long Stratton Explorers, our Explorers have worked on personal fitness in some fun sessions. They also had a “getting to know you” session together where they prepared and cooked mackerel in a smoker and had some trust activities.

Tigers Cubs have been working on Skills and Home Help Badge by make tea, ironing, and sewing badges on. Wolves Cubs had a similar objective with tea making, ironing and cooking pancakes. Thank you to the various parents that came in to help with these sessions.

Adventurers Troop are working towards their Craft Badge with the planning, designing and building a wide variety of “creations”.

In the Beavers Sections the Ninjas have been working on health and fitness and in a session to try to appreciate disability awareness Warriors tackled a blindfold obstacle course with mixed results and a lot of fun!

The pancake season was marked with Wolves Cubs and Adventurers Scouts cooking pancakes during their weekly session and Pioneer Troop Scouts ran their annual Popup Pancake Café for family, friends and guests on Shrove Tuesday. Over 130 pancakes and numerous drinks were prepared, cooked and served over 75 minutes in a packed HQ. During the evening a King’s Scout Award was presented to their former Leader Richard Betts. The KSA is the top achievement for Explorer Scouts and Scout Network Members and comprises of a variety of activities closely linked to the Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award.

Our youngest Section, Squirrels, have been learning about maps by working on their Navigator Badge and craft activities. Unfortunately, the very wet weather meant that their campfire evening had to be postponed.

Our Young People have also been working around the HQ site again finishing off the raised beds and tidying. In some community service two older members of Pioneer Troop spent a very productive evening at a Hoxne Church fundraising quiz helping with answer sheet collection and raffle ticket folding.

Leaders are busy with planning Group Camp at the beginning of May, we are making a return visit to Eaton Vale Activity Centre in Norwich for a weekend of camping and activities. Explorers, Scouts and Cubs will camp for the entire weekend, Beavers will arrive Saturday morning and stay overnight in indoor accommodation and the Squirrels will visit for a day of activities on the Saturday.
