There has been a lot going on in the Scout Group recently, the sections continue to settle into the new HQ though parts of the outside space still resemble a building site. We have obtained a grant and been given a bequest that are being utilised to equip the kitchen with commercial quality fittings and the walls are slowly getting covered in pictures, notice boards, clocks and the Union Flag! Outside construction of the air rifle shooting range has begun with the building of the clay wall as a back stop, this has been part funded by Hoxne Parish Council. The design of the wooden shooting stand for the other end of the range is well advance and Sport England are providing a grant towards that. We are very grateful to both these organisations.
On Remembrance Sunday most of our members attended the Service and Parade in Fressingfield and there were smaller contingents in Laxfield and Hoxne. Afterwards we had an open afternoon with barbeque, refreshments and bar at the new HQ attended by members, parents, the District Commissioner, former members and well wishers. The “Scout of the Year” trophies were presented to all sections, some Chief Scout Commendations and a Woodbeads Leader qualifications were presented to Leaders. Everyone was very complimentary of our new facilities.
A couple of weeks later we had a Craft Fair which was well attended and raised £500 for Group funds. Again, the visitors were impressed. Thank you to everyone that came and contributed to our fundraising.
Tiger Cubs have been focussing on First Aid and all achieved their badge, Explorers went on a night incident hike and used radios to communicate and Scouts have been working on Hobbies badge and their stalls for the Craft Fair.
During November most sections have thought about Remembrance and the hardships of conflict, activities have ranged from a food rationing based activity to talks by the chairman of Fressingfield RBL.
We are really pleased with our latest addition to 1st Fressingfield Scout Group kit. A set of brand new mountain bikes, together with maintenance equipment and a few helmets. Thank you to The Sapphire Trust for their generous grant. They will available for our members to use after Christmas.
We will be having a break over Christmas and New Year and sorting programmes for the Spring term.
We continue to collect crisp packets for recycling and have a dedicated bin at the HQ site, our proceeds are now getting on for £500. As the site is only open when we are there please continue to take packets to the Fressingfield shop or hand to any member. There is also a clothing bank on site and again the bin is only accessible when we are on site, however if you have clothes or shoes to recycle please get in touch and we will arrange to meet you on site, alternatively please hand to any Leader. It will be possible to deliver to the site when the lighter evenings are with us again.
