Village Newsletter: May 2020

It is a testament to the ethos of the Scouting movement, and the skills that we have all acquired, that one of our top considerations (after our own families) was to keep our Young People safe during these difficult times. All face to face Scouting has been suspended for the foreseeable future.

So how do we keep engaged with our Scouting family and support our local community? Keeping active at the same time as sticking to the Government Isolation Rules, particularly for us ‘outdoorsy’ types, is difficult! In the coming days and weeks the Leader team will continue to provide opportunities for all our Young People to engage in.

We are continuing to provide Scouting to our Young People and support to our members and communities through virtual meetings using Zoom, activities and online resources. There have been quizzes, mini raft building and testing, conversations about various hobbies, unusual Scavenger Hunts, games of bingo and kahoot and even Investitures.

Crisp bag boost: Thanks to everyone who are collecting empty crisp bags and thanks to Karine, one of our Executive Committee Trustees for organising the campaign. An unseemly amount of bags have been sent in for recycling and we have just received a contribution of £200, this cash will go towards purchasing new kayaks (made from recycled plastic). We have raised 45% needed for the first kayak.

Please continue to collect crisp packets at home, but hang on to them until the current situation returns to normal.
